Gymnothorax
The genus Gymnothorax is comprised of eels. Certain types of moray eels can store toxins in their flesh. Severe illness can result from consumption. While fishing for "edible-fish" or seafood, it is very important to know what you can and cannot consume, and eels are no exception. Aside from the dangerous bite they have, their toxins can also 'pack a bite,' if consumed. And of course, some eels also can also cause harm in other ways. The electric eel generates more than 400 volts. They store the voltage in their outer coating, which acts as a capacitor (stores the electric charge). If they are provoked, and they rub against what they judge to be a predator, the electricity is discharged and is very painful, if not fatal.
