Lecithin-A phospholipid. Lecithin is also referred to by its chemical name, Phosphatidylcholine. Lecithin is composed of a molecule of choline attached to the phosphate group of a phosphatidic acid. Lecithin or phosphatidylcholine is a major component of the plasma membrane of cells, and is usually found in the outer layer of the cell membrane.
