An essential amino acid. Essential means that we require it in our diet in order for sustaining health and survival. Unlike non-essential amino acids, which can be synthesized from other amino acids and substrates, essential amino acids cannot. In nature, leucine is found in proteins. Leucine and the other 19 biologically active amino acids, are the building blocks of proteins, which are essential for our survial.
