Polysaccharide, covalently linked to protein. The polysaccharide portion of mucoprotein contains many hexosamine residues. We benefit from mucoproteins because they are a component of many mucous secretions. They add lubrication and are also sticky and can trap things, such as the mucoproteins expelled from the nose.
