oxalate-A salt of oxalic acid. When calcium combines with excess oxalates during urine formation, calcium oxalate forms. When high concentrations are present, there is a probability that urinary calculi (kidney stones) will develop. The risk only seems to exist for individuals with family histories of kidney stone formation, and diets which promote calcium oxalates. See oxalic acid.
